If she had to be defined using a song it would have to be Chaka Khan’s 1978 hit, “I’m Every Woman.” From gracing the runway as a plus size model, executively producing her own pageants, serving as a regional director for the Miss Black New York USA Pageant, being crowned Ms. New York Plus America 2010, combined with being a wife and mother, it’s hard to imagine how one woman can play the role of six and counting? Simple; she was built for this since conception. Her principles sit on the foundation of determination and class while her humbleness garnishes the package. She is Tiffany Braxton Belvin.
Born in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn, NY, Tiffany found herself drawn to the allure of pageantry and runway. What was unbeknownst to those around her was how this attraction would lead her to some of the biggest opportunities in her future career. After performing in fashion shows in her teenage years, one thing became apparent, Tiffany was the only plus-sized model to grace those shows. These ladies didn’t look like her and were considerably smaller in size. However, Tiffany never let her size define her ability to be prominent in fashion. Instead, she let it be the very characteristic that set her apart from others before soon discovering that at the time there was not a thriving avenue for plus models.
While taking a position in customer service for a major telecommunications company, Tiffany never put her aspirations in pageantry and modeling on the back burner. She auditioned and made it through the first round of auditions for the second season of Mo'Nique's F.A.T. Chance. Unfortunately, she was cut the very next day. As the old saying goes, “When one door closes, another one opens.” Soon after that experience Tiffany was signed as one of the first signature models for the E-Zine, BelleNoir.com. She became a fit model for a denim company and was even placed as a finalist in multiple model search competitions.
Today, this confident woman is breaking all stereotypes ever created regarding plus size women in fashion and showing that determination pays well. Managed by DSE Model & Talent Management, founded by plus model icon, Ms. Gwen DeVoe, Tiffany has graced publications such as PLUS Model Magazine and SKORCH Magazine with her beauty. She has also made several television appearances to include, The Tyra Banks Show and Lifetime Television's How to Look Good Naked Season 2.
As if her resume weren't impressive enough, Tiffany brings fierceness to the runway. Her walk alone would make Naomi Campbell bat her lashes in amazement. Vowing to "get in her zone," as she calls it before each event, Tiffany has electrified shows with her presence from The Art of Curves Fashion Show, Dangerous Curves Tour and more recently the first ever Full Figured Fashion Week in New York City.
Tiffany exemplifies class with a sophistication that at times can be hard to come by in an industry that is prone to egos. Her diplomacy and easy to work with persona has landed her the title of Regional Director for The Miss. Black New York USA Pageant and executive producer of The Miss Black Queens, NY USA Pageant scheduled for September 2009. Tiffany, along with husband and author, Keith KL Belvin are also scheduled to be seminar speakers for The BBW Empowerment Cruise, produced by BBW Empowerment founder, Sameisha Adolph in July 2010.
In August 2009, Tiffany was crowned Ms. New York Plus America and will compete for the national competition in New Orleans, Louisiana at The Miss Plus America Pageant in July 2010. Currently she is also the Creative Director for Bravin Publishing; a company created with her husband in 2008 and is currently studying for a degree in business management. There is no stopping Tiffany Braxton Belvin. Everyday is an opportunity to witness her climb to new heights.
